Oktoberfest began as a wedding celebration of Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen in 1810. The wedding was celebrated with feasting, drinking beer and horse races. This celebration became an annual Bavarian event. Today, Oktoberfest is celebrated around the world where people dress in traditional Bavarian clothing, dirndls and lederhosen while drinking Munich-style brews.
