While we all may love how we decorate our own home, whether it is giant turkeys, kid’s paintings or even a simple pumpkin collection outside on the porch; our potential buyers come into our homes and try to see past our decorations and visualize what they may put up in the house. So it is imperative that while our lifestyle is present, it is not overbearing. Here are eight tips to achieve this before an open house or showing:

Less is ALWAYS More

Too many fall decorations will take the focus off of your home and its best features. A few tasteful accents can create an inviting feeling and make your house feel like a home. Try displaying a vase with fall foliage or a scented candle next to a layout of seasonal gourds.

Warm up the Interior

While it may be starting to feel cold outside, inside your home should be nice and warm! Start swapping out summer’s vibrant shades for fall’s warm and cozy palette. Deep reds, oranges and purples with accents of gold will set the mood for a sophisticated and approachable setting.

Let the Light in

With daylight time shortening it is essential that there is adequate lighting throughout the home. Natural light is always best so make sure to keep all blinds open but substitute additional illumination if there isn’t a window.

Accentuate Comfort

Buyers are coming in from the cold and what better way to welcome them than with a warm and cozy atmosphere? They will want to stay even longer with things to admire throughout your home. The first thing that creates a memory is the sense of smell. Create a fond memory by burning an apple cinnamon candle or simmer a pot of apple cider on the stove with a stick of cinnamon and some orange slices thrown in. Go the extra mile by letting buyers enjoy the cider with cups laid out and a friendly sign to take part in some!

Gather Around the Fireplace

An intimate fireplace is the perfect place to put emphasis on. Arrange furniture so it is the focal point of the room. Draw attention by creating a beautiful fall piece to look at over the mantle.

Add the Look of Luxury

Enhancing the look of comfort is essential by adding silk and faux fur to the bedroom. Discount stores offer inexpensive bedding options that look high end. Upgrade your bathroom towels to something plush or drape a silky table cloth over the dining room table.

Curb Appeal Done Right

The outside is the first impression your buyers will have of your home; make sure it is a good one! Make sure to rake your leaves, clean up the dead grass, clear out your gardens and clean the gutters! At any rate these are all good tasks to have done before the winter even for yourselves. To take it to the next level, pressure wash the outside to make your home look new again.

In the end the clutter should be gone, the decorations and accessories should be visible and your home will be warm and inviting! Prepare for the offers to be falling in! #Shorewest #TuesdayTips
